About

I'm a cellist and highly experienced music teacher with a gentle, encouraging style. I believe music is for everyone — no matter your age or background. My teaching is rooted in good technique, creativity, and enjoyment. I studied cello at the Royal Academy of Music and hold a music degree from the University of Bristol.

About MeI’ve been teaching since 2003, working in a wide range of settings including state and independent schools — both primary and secondary — one-to-one lessons, group teaching, workshops, and ensembles and taught private one-to-one lessons. I have coached for a Youth Orchestra Cello Section, taught on Cello’s Rock! Holiday Cello Course. I am also a member of the European Strings Teachers Association. My teaching style is warm, inclusive, and flexible. I take a student-led approach, always aiming to meet each person where they are and support them in their own musical journey. Whether you're a student discovering music for the first time, or returning to the cello after many years, I aim to create a learning environment that feels encouraging, responsive, and guided by shared curiosity. A significant influence on my teaching was my time working with Wendy Max at the Junior Academy of Music from 2003 to 2008. Through games and imaginative exercises, Wendy Max makes learning a stringed instrument joyful and achievable, and that spirit continues to inform my own teaching.
Outside of music, I volunteer with Thrive, the Gardening for Health charity, where I work with adults with learning disabilities. Thrive uses gardening to bring about positive change in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health. This reflects my wider commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and helping people grow in confidence and self-expression — whether through music, nature, or connection.
As a performing musician, I have played with orchestras in London and throughout the UK. I also have a great passion for chamber music and was a founding member of the Vilensky String Quartet formed at the Royal Academy of Music. With them I performed extensively in the UK and in New York between 2004 and 2008. Other highlights in chamber music ventures have taken me to Italy to play at a silent film festival and to the Amazon rainforest on a Saga cruise ship.

Cello Lessons for ChildrenI offer a free 30-minute trial lesson so you can find out if I am the right teacher for you and your child – this is very important! Once the trial is completed and you are happy, we will discuss fixing a time for your child to have their lesson each week. For those who wish, I also support ABRSM exam preparation. I usually recommend starting cello lessons from the earliest age six onwards, but every child is different and I’m happy to discuss readiness. I am fully DBS checked and currently teach cello at an independent junior school in Maidenhead. I can offer guidance in setting up cello hire - please contact me I will be happy to help.£21 for 30 minutes LessonCello Lessons for AdultsI believe it’s never too late to start or return to the cello.
